The Petrussa brothers, Gianni and Paolo along with their wives and children run the Petrussa vineyard, located in the Colle Orientale DOC in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. The vineyard and cantina are, in the village of Prepotto near the Slovenian border. The family grows the important local favorites; Schioppettino and Friulano, as well as Sauvignon, Pinot Bianco and Ribolla Gialo. Gianni and Paolo follow a very high density planting technique, as many as 7,000 vines per hectare. The close planting stresses the vines and result in very few buds per vine. The developing fruit is further culled so the actual yield per vine is very low, less than half what is allowed in the DOC rules.

The Petrussa wines are well balanced, rich and elegant, none more so then their Schiopettino. Traditionally, the best versions of this wine are from the village of Prepotto and bear the designation: ā€¯Schioppettino di Prepottoā€¯. Though rather uncommon in the US, there is documented records of the wine production from the late 1300s.
